Marketing Resume Ideas for Your Personal Website

A new and refreshed way to show potential employers your resume is on your very own personal website. More recently, employers are looking for creative, engaging content creation and new ways that people are marketing themselves. The following blog post will share some tips and tricks for your personal website, and also include some resume ideas.

Why should I create a personal branding website?

If you’re studying marketing or marketing management at university, employers will want to see that you have had experience with content marketing. This includes creating Facebook pages and events, posting images to Instagram or even creating your very own personal branding website. Content marketing doesn’t just have to be in a typical job setting, creating content for your boss at the company you work for. We have the ability to create content every day; it is so easy to do with social media and website creating apps, such as pagecloud.com.

Creating a personal branding website is a great way to market yourself. It showcases your skills, previous experience, photography/videography archives and much more. Why not think of yourself as a business? All businesses these days have online websites to market and sell their goods or services. If you want people to find out more about you, why not market and sell yourself? Because digital marketing is developing at such a fast pace, traditional marketing is not as popular as it once was. Having your resume online compared to a typed out, two page long document is a far more modern approach to personal branding.

Personal branding websites are also very useful for freelance artists or workers. They can display their content in a way so that it is easy to view and have a contact page so that people can directly contact them. If someone needs a freelancer for a job, they can view their online portfolio before hiring them. Many freelancers would need to have a physical portfolio as well, but a digital portfolio is much easier to view and it can be seen by people all over the world.

Should I include blog posts?

Most businesses have a blog section on their website so that they can upload engaging and consistent content that relates to their brand. It keeps their website up to date and relevant. If you include a blog page on your personal website, it can be great for people to see that you have good writing and/or photography skills. However, blog posts don’t have to only consist of paragraphs and images. You can create different styles of blog posts, for example you can include:

A lot of people have started blogs that contain different types of content. Blogs that I personally like to look at are related to travel, food or recipes, beauty and fashion.

Here are some great personal branding websites to take a look at:

Seth Godin: https://www.sethgodin.com/

Melanie Daveid: http://melaniedaveid.com/

Verena Michelitsch: https://verenamichelitsch.com/

Here are some great online resumes to take a look at:

Sean Halpin; his resume is short and straight to the point: http://seanhalpin.io/

Gary Sheng; shows exactly what his experience is on the home page: http://www.garysheng.com/

What next?

If you’d like, you can head over to my resume page to have a look at how I have displayed mine. It has a basic layout, but as I gain more experience and learn more about digital marketing, I hope to develop it further! If you’re thinking about creating your own website that includes your resume, be creative and enjoy the process!
